If you are not already familiar with CTDOT Projects #151-312 & #51-326 (AKA "The Mixmaster"), here is a short summary:
Bridge rehabilitation including deck replacements and rehab, parapet modifications, steel repairs, joint repair, substructure repair.
City of Waterbury, Interstate 84-Route 8 Interchange
Plans are to extend the life of bridges approx 25 yrs, bringing bridges up to current structural design standards.
Original Construction Dates:
Original Cost: 25 Million
Approx. 180 million dollars
A plan for a separate more comprehensive replacement project would cost approx. 8 billion dollars per the Let’s Go CT plan
Though known by many for it's punitive lane transitions, this double decker, five-way interchange makes me wax nostalgic for my youth - travelling to my grandparents house in Waterbury we would ride the lower deck. This was before video games, so a sighting of local landmark "Holy Land" on the hill, followed by a ride through the Mixmaster was quite a treat back then.
